A few of my readers have been asking about patterns that use three or four fabrics and so I went on a hunt! I found Fabric Cafe and ordered two books - Quick as a Wink and Fat Quarter Quilting Fun. Fabric Cafe is a mother-daughter team (Donna Robertson and Fran Morgan) from Tyler, Texas.

Quick as a Wink 3-Yard Quilts by Donna Robertson

Quick as a Wink is a 19-page book has patterns for eight quilts that all use three one-yard pieces of fabric for the top. The designs range from traditional to modern and make small throw-size quilts (40" x 60" range). That size is also suitable for a lap quilt or a toddler quilt.

The first two pages go over tips and techniques such as pre-washing, enlarging the pattern, binding, etc.

Each project has well-written instructions with lots of diagrams and a full color picture of the finished quilt.

Fat Quarter Quilting Fun has such cute quilts - all made with fat quarters! I especially like the "Woven" pattern and there's also a Christmas one!

The book is 23 pages long, full of diagrams (even cutting diagrams!), and a full color picture of the quilt. Like the book "Quick as a Wink" by her mother, Fran includes two pages of tips and techniques at the beginning of the book.

The quilts are all in the small throw size range. However, yardage for multiple sizes is given in case you want to make a larger quilt.

Conclusion:

All in all I like both books and will have to try out the "Woven" pattern for sure! The patterns look to be on the easier side of things and would be great for beginners as well as experienced quilters looking for a quick project. I also like that both books are made with heavier paper for durability.
